We find out what kids are experiencing. What they have questions about. What they’re actually interested in. And we buy them brand new books that are theirs to keep.
When kids read something they can connect to, something that they can see themselves in, amazing things can happen.
Our volunteers care deeply about education and children. But a more powerful driver is their personal relationship with reading. Everyone involved with BTP has a story about when they fell in love with reading and how it changed their lives. It fuels every program we implement.
When we uncover a school or youth program that doesn’t have access to books, we bring people together to generate the money and time needed to build a solid library of literature hand-picked by the educators and our program leaders. We then deliver hundreds of books to these programs.
Many teachers and program leaders who share a similar passion for reading have reached out to us wanting to run book clubs with their students. We all know the constant constraints teachers face so we supply the books and resources (aka snacks) to enable them to operate their reading programs.
We’ve seen kids who are consistently in trouble at school become encouraging leaders
Shy and withdrawn kids reading aloud even as they stumble over words
We’ve seen kids who face trauma and danger every day, who feel totally alone, see possibility through authors who’ve shared their experiences
